SALT LAKE CITY - January 24, 2002 - Utah Media Center (UMC)
General
Manager, J. Scott Iverson, today announced that USANA Health Sciences,
a
Salt Lake City based supplier of nutritional supplements, has
agreed to
become the 'Headliner Sponsor' of the State's center for unaccredited
media
attending the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games.
'We are pleased that USANA has decided to join us in our effort
to
accommodate the thousands of unaccredited members of the press
who will be
in Salt Lake during the Winter Games,' said Iverson. 'With financial
assistance from USANA and other local firms, as well as counties
and
tourism groups, the UMC is able to provide the visiting journalist
an
excellent facility to learn more about Utah and the Games.'
Unaccredited Media and the Utah Media Center
The Utah Media Center is a resource operated by the state's
Division of
Travel Development (Utah Travel Council) for journalists coming
to Utah
because of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games. 'Our prime goal,' said
Spencer
Kinard, Assistant Director of the Utah Travel Council, 'is to
provide
media, especially the non-accredited press, with information and
story
ideas about Utah, as well as a place to work.' The UMC is located
at the
Expo Mart at 230 West 200 South in Salt Lake City and will be
the home
during the Games for ABC News, ABC Radio, CBS News, ESPN, CNN,
European Broadcast Union and hundreds of other visiting media.
USANA Health Sciences
'We believe the Utah Media Center is the perfect venue for
USANA Health
Sciences to extend our sponsorship of the US and Canadian Speedskating
teams and to allay the concerns many athletes have of using nutritional
supplements,' said Dave Wentz, Executive Vice President. 'Recent
IOC
statements and media reports have left many athletes uncertain
about taking
nutritional supplements. USANA Health Sciences has dozens of
athletes who
have been tested for IOC banned substances while taking our products
and
all of these athletes have passed the tests with no trace of banned
substances. So, in addition to utilizing the center's Briefing
Stage to
facilitate the Canadian Speedskating team's major media events,
USANA will
provide media who visit our booth in the center more information
about how
the company has earned the trust of athletes around the world.'
USANA Health Sciences, Inc., develops, manufactures and distributes
nutritional products that are sold directly to preferred customers
and
distributors throughout the United States, Canada, Hong Kong,
Japan, the
United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Australia and New Zealand.
