FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
NEW WEBSITE OFFERS CHANCE FOR PEACE, ONE PERSON AT A TIME
PeaceOffer.net gives
individuals a forum for making peace with someone-even themselves.
West Orange, N.J. -The holiday season has traditionally been a
time for peace and reflection.
Whether it is the oft-heard sentiment of "Peace on Earth"
or a New Year's resolution to mend
a past relationship, peace seems to be at the center of the holiday
spirit. A new not-for-profit
website, PeaceOffer.net,
has taken this theme to heart, offering visitors a chance to make
peace with someone in their lives.
PeaceOffer.net is based on the principle that individual actions
can make global differences -
that if individuals can make peace with one another, then peace
on a larger scale is possible.
Says creator Mitch Axelrod, "Peace will not be reached by
governments; it will be achieved by
people. If we want to leave a more peaceful planet for the future
generations, it's up to us to do
it."
To help people take the first step, PeaceOffer.net
allows users to make a "peace offer" to
someone - privately or anonymously. You can ask for or express
forgiveness, make amends
or extend an olive branch. You can send it to anyone, living or
passed.
According to Axelrod, the inspiration for the site came from some
of the horrible events that
have occurred in the world recently, most notably the rash of
school shootings and the
tragedy of September 11th. After the Columbine shooting in 1999,
Axelrod decided to focus
his work on values and creating more harmony in the world for
future generations. He states,
"There's been so much tragedy in the
US and around the world the past few years, I wanted
to do something to influence peace. I felt making peace one person
at a time was a way every
individual could make a difference."
PeaceOffer.net is a non-profit offshoot of the Axelrod
Learning Center, which teaches people
about Axiology, the little-known science of human values and value
judgments. The Center
offers "Value Profiles" for understanding one's own
strengths and passions, and training to
develop talents and skills.
Axelrod speaks and uses his Internet
Radio Show to help people achieve life balance by
aligning the intrinsic values that guide our lives, with a better
understanding of the world
around us.
