Exercise Your Moral Authority and Take a Stand!
We believe authority is bestowed upon us. It's not.
Webster's defines authority in many ways, including "an accepted source of expert information or advice; an expert in a given field."
The best part of the definition is this: "authority is the power to influence or persuade resulting from knowledge or experience."
Knowledge and experience give you authority.
LIFE itself gives you moral authority!
No formal authority is needed to take a stand! Every movement starts with one person exercising his or her moral authority. All change occurs because someone takes a stand. Sometimes, that stand is unreasonable.
Breakthrough and transformation, learning and wisdom come from our inner power to see the world in a new light, or vision it so.
There is a new order emerging in this new millennium. It's the power of the individual, and it's a force to be reckoned with. Keep in mind, Ghandi and Martin Luther King, Jr. had NO formal authority.
Many experts of the past were authorities because they knew more, and because they were anointed with power to rule over someone. Today's authorities are self-proclaimed. They don't rule over people, they serve people. Anyone can claim authority. In fact, just about everyone IS claiming to be the "world's leading authority" on this or that. That's good.
Everyone IS an authority on at least one thing: YOUR OWN LIFE STORY. Your knowledge, experience and wisdom make you an authority. You don't need someone else to give you that authority. Claim it.
I bring this up because this week Adam was cutting up in class with a group of friends, and the substitute told his teacher about it. Next thing I know, his teacher is calling me to tell me that for his actions, Adam will be forfeiting his privileges to go to the Talent Show.
Actions have consequences. At 12 years old life is challenging because the lessons come fast and furious. Change is like total metamorphosis. Adam was identified by 13 of his classmates as one of the perpetrators. I'd say this baker's dozen of a jury has spoken. Now he must face the music.
Adam's mom Anita and I do not punish. We put our energies into helping him learn the consequences of his actions. We try hard not to make HIM bad for his behavior. We do our best to separate Adam the person, whom we love unconditionally, from Adam the student. We further separate out our expectations of him. HE is not his behavior, nor our expectations. But he IS learning HE is responsible for his choices.
As all actions have consequences, all actions produce learning if we look for it. One thing we talked about is the power of group thinking, and guilt by association. Whether or not he was actually doing the deed (he was), he will be rounded up with the rest of them and charged accordingly. Sometimes, standing too close is all it takes to be implicated. He's learning the difference between choosing what peer pressure encourages him to do, and what his own moral compass says is the good thing to do (or NOT do). That's a moment to moment choice we all must make.
Sometimes, it requires us to separate from the pack, take another path, or make a different choice. Often, that choice will be met with ridicule, criticism, anger, and even violence. It may lead people to ostracize you from their group. This is true in all areas of life. It's good for kids to learn early: think for yourself, make up your own mind, choose responsibly, be accountable for your actions, and walk the road less traveled if that's where your inner compass points.
Obeying the rules is not the highest value
in life.
Social acceptance is not the highest value in life.
LOVING YOURSELF, AND OTHERS IS THE HIGHEST VALUE IN LIFE.
Adam learned a lot from this experience on many levels, and so did we. He will sacrifice some privileges this week, not as punishment; but as a consequence for his actions. While he gives up a few privileges and pays a few penalties, he's learning precious life skills that will serve him forever.
An important life skill to learn is how to exercise your moral authority, to make decisions and choices from your center of gravity, even when they may go against the majority or the mob mentality. The majority is not always on the side of good. The majority is not always "right."
He knows he could have made another choice in class. He learns that lesson, and moves on without guilt. He took response-ability, so he can clear the past with no lingering effects. He will experience consequences, which will teach him to think about the implications of his actions and behavior.
He now knows he has power to exercise HIS moral authority, even when those around him are losing theirs.
Don't wait for anything outside you to give you authority. You may never receive their authorization. You don't need it. You already have it. You just need to express it. It takes courage. Living life takes courage.
There's only one way to build courage: BE COURAGEOUS.
This Week's Life Skill for
Business...
Exercise your moral
authority. Be courageous. Take a stand for good.
As Ghandi said, "Be
the change you want to see in the world."

2. BUSINESS SKILL FOR LIFE
============================
Learn, Baby, Learn!
When I was in high school (a long, long time ago), a popular sentiment of the times was Burn, Baby, Burn! The 60's and early 70's was a time of extreme social activism. The world was crazy, in turmoil, war everywhere (HOT and COLD), and peace was a foreign concept. But because we had something outside of ourselves to be concerned about, we were all aware of what was going on around us. In the 21st century, it seems most of us are not as concerned about outside events. The focus has turned inward.
The 20th century was a time for learning from the outside, by watching what we do, and watching what others do. The authoritarian model is a hierarchical one, with one person at the top and others following behind and below.
The 21st century is already showing signs of massive numbers of people turning inside, toward intrinsic learning and spiritual awareness. I'm always amused when someone says to me, "I'm a spiritual person." That's like saying "I'm a human being." EVERYONE IS A SPIRITUAL PERSON.
There is no lack of spirituality in the world. Spirituality is abundant, it lives and breathes in every being and in many non-beings alike.
What's lacking is awareness. We are all spiritual beings. We don't need to "study" spirituality, we ARE SPIRITUALITY. What we need is awareness of our spirituality. Awareness is the bridge that connects us to who we are.
There is no lack of information, knowledge or wisdom to draw upon for any challenge we have in life. What we lack is ACCESS. Like awareness, access is the key that unlocks the vault of riches inside of us.
As we expand our AWARENESS, we gain greater
ACCESS.
As awareness nourishes us spiritually, access enriches us personally.
A great way to expand awareness and gain access is to attend seminars.
In the spirit of expanding my awareness, gaining access, and taking time out from the speed of daily life, I am off to Las Vegas (or as my friend Marc calls it, "Lost Wages"). I will spend three days with colleagues and friends, some old and some new, in a learning experience called the Internet Marketing Super Conference. Sounds truly SUPER, doesn't it?
I am truly amazed at how many teachers, experts and "gurus" attend these seminars. There will be as many experts in the audience as there are on the platform. What does that tell you about people with authority?
Today, true authority is empowered by learning, experience and wisdom, not royal decree or political bloodlines. Authority is expressed, not bestowed. Our lives change forever when we claim and exercise authority.
I'm going to spend three days with 100 authorities in their field. Do you think I'll have some good things to share with you the next few weeks?

FREE tele-seminar goes LIVE! REALLY!
Five Businesses That Make Money and Make a Difference in the World!
"I'm on these calls because one tip you gave me a few weeks ago earned me an extra $3,000 THIS MONTH. Every time I listen to you, I learn more and, I earn more." David LeDoux, multi-million dollar business owner.
Last week, we told you to listen to this recorded tele-seminar about five different ways you can generate more active, passive AND residual income (like authors and entertainers do), in businesses that also make a difference in the world.
BUT I spoke too soon. I apologize if you tried to find it on our website and didn't. It wasn't there. It is NOW. And I promise it's worth listening to.
It is a jam-packed hour of inspiring conversation about how to capitalize on opportunity; any opportunity you have in front of you. This is NOT a one-hour sales or product pitch. It's loaded with practical advice to help you build your net worth and, your net wealth (non-financial assets).
The five opportunities we talk about are all "in-trend" and each can enrich your life, enliven your livelihood, and earn you a more prosperous living. Even if you're not interested in opportunity right now, you will gain value by listening to this seminar.
