Release the Brakes Stop Spinning Your Wheels!

YOU are a high performance human being. No other species has the talent, potential and intellectual capacity you do. You are the Rolls Royce of the animal kingdom.

Yet, so many of us are travelling the highway of life with one or more brakes locked on. Like a high performance race car, having a brake locked will cause you to spin your wheels. You go around in circles until that brake is released. Sound familiar?

What brake do you have locked? At one time or another, we all have a brake locked. If your car has a locked brake, you take it to a mechanic. Actually, he'd have to come to you because you can't drive with a bad brake.

Who do you go to for repair when your life's brakes get locked?

The best way to stop spinning your wheels is to release your brakes. If you hit the pedal harder, you spin faster. To stop spinning in any area of life, release the brake that's got you stuck.

There are three areas to look: head, heart, hands. Your mind-set, motivation or methods are stuck. Maybe more than one. Maybe all three.

Mind-Set Is Your Head
Motivation Is Your Heart
Method Is Your Hands

You have the strongest foundation for building success when your head and heart are working in unison. When these are harmonized, any method you use will be effective. As you improve your methods, you make exponential progress in your performance and results.

When you experience success, fulfillment, positive results, personal satisfaction, economic security and financial rewards, it is because your mind-set, motivation and methods are working in balance.

On the other hand, whenever you are not reaching the level of skill, performance and results you know you are capable of producing, and deserve to have, simply look at your mind-set, motivation and method. Your head, your heart or your hands (or more than one) are not functioning at high levels.

At this very moment, is there an imbalance or incongruity among your head, heart and hands? Are they out of sync?

DO YOU EVER HAVE DAYS WHEN YOUR HEAD IS JUST NOT "INTO" WHAT YOU'RE DOING?

Aren't there days when you are distracted, diffused, not focused, or simply unable to concentrate? Times when you just can't seem to get your head into your work. How much does it rob you of effectiveness when your head is "out of it?" How much more could you produce if you could keep your head clear and focused on what you want to accomplish, and act with purpose when you go about getting it? Wouldn't it be nice to eliminate or minimize worry, doubt, fear, uncertainty, delay and hesitation?

HOW DIFFICULT IS IT TO BE PRODUCTIVE AND EFFECTIVE WHEN YOU APPROACH YOUR WORK WITH A LUKE-WARM HEART?

What do you lose in energy, efficiency, enthusiasm, excitement and enjoyment when you are simply not motivated to do what you know is required to reach your objectives? What does it feel like when you lose passion for your work, or find your zest for life is sapped? Certainly, you are not at your best.

ARE YOU OCCASIONALLY FRUSTRATED THAT YOUR METHODS DON'T WORK LIKE YOU KNOW THEY SHOULD?

You practice your skills and improve your methods, only to find you are not getting the results you want. The fancy phrases killer techniques and power moves you learned are not serving you like they once did. Why are you not achieving the success you deserve? Maybe it's the economy, interest rates, the Federal Reserve Board (it's Alan Greenspan). What is happening? It's really very simple.

YOUR MIND-SET, MOTIVATION & METHODS ARE OUT OF WHACK!

YOU ARE MIS-ALIGNED. INCONGRUENT. IMBALANCED.
YOU NEED AN ADJUSTMENT IN YOUR HEAD, HEART OR HANDS!

Take a look at your mind-set, motivation and methods. Honestly appraise yourself in these three areas, and determine which one or more is not working. By identifying your roadblock in your mind-set, motivation and method, you will turn the key and unlock the door to enhanced performance, greater satisfaction in your work and measurable increases in your results. It can happen quickly.

IF you want to stop spinning your wheels and release your brakes, find a purpose (comes from your head), passion (from inside your heart), and payoff (financially, mentally, emotionally or spiritually) that excites you. Identify which one or more of this Power of Three™ you have stuck. Work to clear that space. Clearing the space allows you room to plant something new.

Like the ancient story of the rice bowl, we must empty before we can refill.

Know the Odds!

In May, we had a dozen conference calls with more than 200 people from all over the world. We discussed how to leverage your time, talents, contacts, buyers, technology, communication and a mastermind group. Step-by-step, we outlined what it takes to run and be profitable in business. We discussed career, livelihood, doing what you love, and loving what you do.

We taught how to Take a Millionaire to Lunch™ and network to get anything you want from anyone, anywhere and anytime. We challenged what I call Success BS™ and made big distinctions about "failure" and setback, and the "real" truth about how things work.

We shared the importance of supplementing nutrition to achieve a better state of health, minimize lost time due to illness and immune breakdowns, and be more productive in your work as well.

My friend Ken Kerr, former Creative Director of Disney Imagineering and project manager of EPCOT Center and Disney Japan, shared the principles that made Disney the greatest entertainment company in the history of the world. We talked about how you can apply those to your situation and boost your business.

We discussed why 90% of all businesses fail, how we sabotage ourselves, and how we often don't see our biggest opportunities because they are right in front of us. We talked about the power of aligning with our values and the impact our perception of "value" has on our choices, actions and outcomes. We see the link; how our choices lead to actions and create the experience called life.

People who were on these calls now have a few dozen more ways to bring out the best they have to offer, and get paid what they are really worth.

One thing that came up over and over again was how many people didn't understand the odds of business success. I take issue with the mantra, "nothing can stop an idea whose time has come." Like much of what passes today as Success BS™ this is not necessarily true.

There are many good ideas whose time has come; like ending world hunger. But millions go hungry each day and many die of malnutrition, even though we have the capability and global capacity to feed them all. I can't imagine any idea whose time has MORE come than making sure every human on the planet eats every day.

What's the 1% tipping point to tilt the odds enough to end world hunger? What are the odds this will happen in our lifetime?

Take a look at Las Vegas. It's one of the fastest growing cities in America not because it's an idea whose time has come, but largely because of one simple thing:

THEY KNOW THE ODDS!

Do you know the odds? Many people on these calls were honest enough to say they don't know the odds. I'm not speaking of craps, blackjack or the slot machines, but the odds of success. In particular, success in business.

It's said that if we flip a coin enough times, it will come up almost 50/50, heads and tails. The question is how many times is enough for the law of averages to kick in? In life, we usually don't get 1,000 flips, or even 100 flips of the coin. Every choice seems so immediate, so important and life altering, we don't give ourselves enough flips to favor the odds on our side. If you have to get it right the first time or you are out of the game, 50/50 isn't going to cut it.

In the game of business, the long-term success rate is less than 10 %.

Like the casinos in Las Vegas, we need to tilt the odds in our favor.

Realize this: The "Tipping Point" (a GREAT book by Malcolm Gladwell) is one percent. That's right, a 1% "tilt" of the odds built Las Vegas, Atlantic City and every other major city in the world financed by gaming. They are no fools.

They RIG the game. All they need to do is tilt the odds a mere 1% in their favor to ensure their success. They call the 1% the "vig" which is short for vigorish. It's the spread. It's the insurance policy that guarantees they make money, regardless of how you bet, or who wins the horse race.

They know the odds, and play the law of averages. They know if you win 50.5% of the time, you can pay off billion dollar hotels in less than five years.

ONE PERCENT IS the tipping point in games of chance.

In baseball, they have a place for players who hit .300 and higher for their careers. It's called the Hall of Fame. Keep in mind, this shrine is reserved for those who succeed only three times, and "fail" seven times out of 10.

What's the difference in performance between a player who hits .299 and one who hits .300?

ONE hit every 1,000 times at bat. In baseball, one extra hit every two years is what tips someone from very good to GREAT.

It's time you RIG the game in YOUR favor. When you make important choices without knowing the odds, you reduce your ability to have that choice work out and pay off. When you RIG the game and stack the odds in your favor, life, livelihood and living are no longer games of chance.

Like life itself, success in business becomes a game of choice.
