1. LIFE SKILL FOR BUSINESS
==========================
Network-Ability... Rejection-Proof
Your Networking.
Speak to anyone, anywhere, anytime about anything.
What causes you to hesitate to speak to anyone, anywhere, anytime about anything?
If you had the solution to this, how would your life be different?
I have been wrestling with this for most
of my adult life. I know others who have
been at it for years, also.
Maybe to find the answer to this question, we ask a different question...
What is SO important to you that you wouldn't hesitate to speak to anyone about it?
Is there something in your life you are
so passionate about, you wouldn't hesitate to
speak to anyone about it? Once you find what that is, you are
one step away from
speaking to anyone, anywhere, anytime about anything.
Fear of rejection, disapproval, ridicule,
embarrassment, and alienation are some of
the core reasons we hesitate to approach people. Lack of self-esteem,
self-confidence
and belief also contribute to our delay.
Attachment to the outcome is another source of hesitation and procrastination.
What if you don't get what you want or expect?
What if you DO get what you DON'T want or expect?
These factors limit your network-ability,
and reduce the likelihood you'll reach as
far into your sphere of influence as you could.
Are you coming close to tapping your network, let alone your networks' networks?
Networking is relationship building. Whether
you do it face to face, by phone, email,
direct mail, or third party, networking is the lifeblood of your
livelihood and living.
Whatever your product, service, issue or cause, or your method
of communication,
"working your net" is a vital life and business skill.
How can you begin to overcome fear of
rejection, and talk to anyone anywhere
anytime about anything?
There is a way to rejection-proof your networking,
eliminate resistance and gain
acceptance for your product, service, issue or cause.
Here's how? It's simple, and easy.
Take a Millionaire to Lunch!
Take a Millionaire to Lunch is a rejection-proof
way to network. I've used it and
taught it to more than 10,000 people world-wide.
Here's the short version. Answer these four
questions in one or two sentences
with clarity and you can rejection-proof your networking.
1. What do you do?
2. Why do you do it?
3. Who are you looking for (or who do you serve best)?
4. Where could you go next?
That's it. Guaranteed, 100% rejection-proof
networking. Of course, knowing
"what to do" but not knowing the "how to do it"
is often more frustrating than not
knowing what to do in the first place.
Answering these four questions succinctly
with clarity, purpose, and straightforward
language anyone can understand takes a little time and some effort.
It's worth it.
"Rejection-Proof Networking!"
will shortcut your effort and speed up success.
Phrase your what, why, who and where with impact, and in a way
that people get it.
If you don't have clear answers right now,
you are costing yourself big money and
lost opportunity. Every day that passes you lose a chance to implant
and cement
your message into the hearts and minds of potential buyers and
to test them out
in the real world. Use them, hone them and refine them.
You can save a lot of time an energy if
you work with someone who can help you
frame out answers and give you feedback. If you want help, see
below.
Work on these over the next week.
Eliminate rejection forever. Tell people...
What you do.
Why you do it.
Who you're looking for (who you serve best).
Then ask, "Where should I go from here?"

How to Solve Problems Outside the Box...
The Blue Jay and the Sun Porch!
I have noticed a fascinating pattern that
emerges when we run value profiles. The
value profile measures how we think and make choices, based on
what we pay
attention to, the balance we have and how much clarity we bring
to each choice or
decision.
One in five people who complete their value
profile are "unconventional" in the way
they think. Most often, it shows up in how they deal with rules
and systems, or how
they make practical decisions. Sometimes it shows up in how they
deal with people.
The reason I bring this up is because last
week we had a series of tele-conferences,
and we got around to the subject of making choices and decisions
in a new world
where the rules are changing faster than our skills can keep up.
Our method of solving problems is often
based on habit and pattern. Most of us like
consistency and predict-ability, and rarely (and reluctantly)
stray from the comfort
of our habitual thinking and pre-patterned approaches to things.
That leads me to the story of...
The Blue Jay and the Sun Porch!
In the back of our house is a sun porch,
enclosed with glass and with a wide
open view to a fairly large backyard (large for Jersey that is).
I keep the screen door
and the back door open to let fresh air through the house. Autumn
in NJ is a gift.
The other day, a blue jay flew in and landed
on the ledge that runs around the entire
sun porch. I watched him try to blast through the glass, certain
his freedom was just
on the other side. After crashing into the glass over and over,
I couldn't watch it any
more. I ran out to help. After four or five grabs at air, I started
to feel like Rocky Balboa
when he was trying to chase down and catch that chicken. Birds
don't want to be caught.
How many times did that bird hit the glass,
each time thinking he was home free?
I stopped counting after a dozen. He was dazed. Every time I got
close to try to grab
him to help out the open door, he'd turn away and fly the length
of the sun porch, only to...
You guessed it: smack into the window on
the other side. I was starting to get upset.
I knew if I didn't find a way to help this guy, it was just a
matter of time before he
would break his neck or crack open his head.
As I was playing chicken, I started to laugh thinking about how I did this in my life.
After a few more futile attempts, running
out of breath (me, not him) I cornered him
on the far end of the porch and snatched him up, turned and flung
him towards the
door. He flew like an arrow, straight and true, right through
both doors and took
off into the sky. I felt like I just scored the winning basket
in the NBA finals.
I closed the screen door and went back into
the house, I was full of myself. After
patting myself on my back a few times, what do you think came
to my mind?
Omigod! That little birdy is ME!
How many times have I crashed
into windows certain I see the solution just on the
other side?
How often have I bounced off walls trying to forge a path where this is none?
When do I do "more of the same" instead of doing something different and better?
How do I "box myself in" to either/or choices when it could be either/AND?
Why don't I see the open doors?
Sometimes, our eyes deceive. Like the blue
jay in the sun porch, he sees the light
on the other side of the window, but he'll never "see"
the light by trying to go
through the window. The path to freedom lies not in what he sees,
but in what he
doesn't see.
His success is in his senses, not his sight.
The easiest way to find the door is to feel
for or sense the air around him. A breeze or
an air current signals an opening. But the blue jay wasn't wired
to feel for the breeze.
He trusts his eyes. In this case, what he sees (the light) and
what he doesn't see
(the window) might just get him killed.
I started thinking how this was one of those
heaven sent experiences that teaches us
about ourselves through our interaction with other creatures around
us.
I will always remember the blue jay and the sun porch, especially when I ask myself:
"Where is the open door?" Can I see it or will I sense it?
Sometimes, we can "see" better
when our eyes are shut.
Eyes are logical. Feelings are intuitive.
The best of worlds is to "see" and "sense" all of what's available to us.
Don't wait for New Year to make a resolution. Make a Thanksgiving promise.
Promise to "look"
outside the box a little bit every day. Stretch. Expand the range
of choices and options by "seeing" with your eyes shut
and trusting your intuition.
Sometimes the better choices are outside the box of our habitual thinking.
In a time of flux and change, one of the
ways we maintain our balance and our
center of gravity is to broaden our thinking. Narrow or rigid
thinking leaves little
room for new choices, and limits our options to what is already
known.
Expanded thinking leads to a broader base of options and choices.
Now, back to "unconventional"
thinkers. About 20% of the people who complete
their value profile show up as "unconventional" thinkers.
In matters of practical thinking
or systems judgment, they think outside the box. Naturally. They
don't have to try.
They cannot "not think" outside
the box. Conventional thinking looks inside the box first,
unconventional thinking looks outside the box first. One is not
better than the other.
The difference: inside
the box are a limited and finite number of poss-abilities,
while outside the box there are infinite poss-abilities.
About 80% of us tend to see patterns and
approach issues from inside the box.
That doesn't mean we can't go outside the box, we just don't.
Maybe once in a while
we will, but not unless we have a compelling reason to do so.
There is nothing wrong
with that. Many decisions and choices will come from inside the
box.
What do we do about this?
The more conventional
among us might consider expanding our thinking beyond our
comfortable limits to solve problems that require outside the
box options.
Those of us who are unconventional
in our thinking (yes, I'm usually
outside
the box), might be better served to consider options "inside
the box," especially if
inside the box options can lead to simpler choices and better
decisions.
It's as hard for unconventional thinkers
to return to the box as it is for conventional
thinkers to go outside the box. For unconventional thinkers the
feeling of being
"boxed in" is like being a trapped animal. It is very
uncomfortable for people who
are accustomed to thinking free of constraints to be forced into
thought captivity.
The bottom line:
Solutions in today's complex world are often outside the box, but not always.
Thinking outside the box expands your options
and choices. There's no guarantee
that will lead to better choices, but as my grandmother used to
say:
"It couldn't hoit!" Step outside your normal and habitual way of thinking.
For us unconventional thinkers, "outside
the box" might actually mean going back inside
the box to see what we missed. We can have a tendency to miss
the obvious because
we don't value looking at what's already known. We prefer to be
unconventional and
discover a new way, even if the old tried and true way works just
fine.
Either way you think, the name of the game is to think above and beyond habitual patterns.
